Cooperman Memorial Shoot

In honour of John & Susan Cooper

T

he first ever Cooperman Memorial Clay Pigeon Shoot took place at the Coniston Cold Shooting Ground (part of the Coniston Hotel Country Estate and Spa complex near Gargrave) in August 2019.

Abbey Lodge’s Charity Steward, Worshipful Brother John Cooper, arranged an annual shoot for 11 consecutive years raising approximately £40,000 before his untimely death whilst on holiday in Egypt in August 2018. His lifelong friend and Masonic Brother, Worshipful Brother Harvey Capstick, arranged the inaugural Cooperman Memorial Shoot in 2019. The format of this Shoot followed closely that developed by ‘Cooperman’ with sponsorship helping to offset the cost of the event.

The funds raised through the inaugural Cooperman Memorial Clay Pigeon Shoot in 2019 enabled Abbey Lodge, 2529 to donate almost £5,000 to worthy masonic and non-masonic causes. This is a handsome sum and Abbey Lodge is justly proud of its achievement in this regard.

We continue to host these Memorial Shoots in John and Susan name and to support the local charities they held dear to their hearts.

The Memorial Shoot

T

he first-ever Cooperman Memorial Shoot was held in August 2019. We missed two years due to COVD-19 but the Cooperman Memorial Shoot returned in 2022 and is once again an annual Abbey Lodge 2529 social event.  The majority of the funds raised go to local, regional and national non-masonic charities.

The Cooperman Memorial Shoot, 2026 will be held on Thursday 20th August 2026 at the Coniston Cold Shooting Ground

The event will start at 10:00am.

To take part as a Shooter the cost will be £55 each. Included in this fee is gun hire, cartridges, clays, safety equipment and, most importantly, tuition from a qualified Instructor. The cost per Shooter is kept as low as possible by the generosity of a number of  Memorial Shoot Sponsors.

You can sponsor the Shoot for £280 which includes 2 Shooter places and a Trophy that you will present on the day.
