Arthur Longworth (1863 – 1947)
Past Grand Deacon
Worshipful Brother Longworth was a founder member of Abbey Lodge and was its first treasurer. He was initiated into his mother Lodge, fidelity No. 269 on the 2nd of January 1879 and on joining Abbey Lodge in 1894 his occupation was listed as a cotton manufacturer, an occupation common to many of the Lodge members at that time.
He became Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1898 and again in 1915, was promoted To Past Provincial Senior Warden in 1902 and achieved his Grand Rank in 1921.
The Supreme Council, 33rd degree for England, Wales and the Dependencies of the British Crown admitted him to the 30th degree on Saturday, 25 September 1909. The event must have been of particular significance and value to Worshipful Brother Longworth as he carefully preserved summons, banquet invitation and even his place card!
Worship for Brother Longworth was also a member of the larger fortitude No. 64 and the east Lancashire Provincial grand offices Lodge No. 3747 he died in 1922.
