W. Bro. The Venerable Archdeacon Charles Henry Lambert, 1894 -1983

Past Assistant Grand Chaplain

W. Bro. Lambert was educated at Leeds University and Ripon College Cuddesdon being ordained in 1918.

After curacies in Redcar and Guisborough he held incumbencies in York and Royston.

He was Warden of Whalley Abbey from 1934 to 1945 becoming Archdeacon of Blackburn in 1946 until 1959. He was Worshipful Master of Abbey Lodge in 1947 and 1948.

He became Archdeacon of Lancaster in 1959 until 1966 whilst being Vicar of St Cuthbert’s, Lytham from 1960 until 1966. Emeritus, 1966.

Masonic Career

Whilst the Warden of Whalley Abbey Reverend Lambert was proposed into Freemasonry by Herbert Sagar and seconded by Roger Green. He was initiated on 15 June 1944 by W. Bro. C H Bower, Acting Worshipful Master, passed to the second degree on 6 July and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on 10 August 1944.

His clerical duties precluded him from attending the Lodge regularly but he was present on 12 April 1945 to receive and sign his Grand Lodge Certificate. One month late on 17 May 1945 he was installed as the Junior Warden of Abbey Lodge and one year later on 10 May 1946 Senior Warden. Some time later that year he became the Venerable Archdeacon of Blackburn.

On the 15 May 1947 (by dispensation) he was installed into the Master’s Chair of Abbey Lodge by W. Bro. H C Worswick. He was promoted to Provincial Grand Chaplain in early 1948 before taking the Office of Worshipful Master for a second year. By 1950 he was a Past Provincial Grand Chaplain. It isn’t known at present when he obtained Grand Rank.
