Abbey Team Grab the Travelling Gavel
On Thursday, 17 January 2025 a concerted effort by Abbey Lodge members ensured the Travelling Gavel returned to Abbey Lodge.
The criteria for claiming the Travelling Gavel is that at least 5 members of a Lodge including the Worshipful Master visit a regular meeting of the Lodge holding the Gavel.
The Lodge of Perseverance, No. 345 that meets at Darwen Masonic Hall had quite recently claimed the Travelling Gavel. They may have thought it would be in their keeping for some time but a swift move by Abbey Lodge members ensured it was only a short stay.
Abbey Lodge’s WM accompanied by a Lodge Grand Officer, a Past Master, the Lodge Director of Ceremonies, the Northern Area Assistant Charity Steward and Acting Provincial Junior Deacon (all Abbey Lodge 2529 members) descended on the Lodge of Perseverance’s January 2025 meeting to rightfully claim the Travelling Gavel. Now that it is in our possession a similar delegation from another Northern Area Lodge will have to visit an Abbey Lodge regular meeting to claim it for themselves.

The Travelling Gavel was presented to Horizon Lodge No. 8948 by visiting Masons from Savannah, Georgia in 2002.
Since then it has been around the Northern Area of the Province.
